Our warming planet

Slowly but surely the surface of the planet is getting hotter, and as a result, all of us are starting to suffer.

What happens as a result of global warming?

You might be thinking to yourself, "What exactly happens if temperatures continue to rise?"

One of the most visible effects of global warming is the melting of the world's polar ice caps. These melting glaciers, especially in Antarctica, will cause ocean levels to rise and could possibly put your family at risk.

What causes global warming?

In the most basic sense, the largest cause of global warming is heat from the sun being trapped by greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is just one of many greenhouse gases, but it is one of the most abundant because humans release this gas every time we consume fossil fuels.

This means that every time we drive around in our cars or even turn on the lights to brighten up our houses, we are directly and indirectly releasing this harmful gas into the atmosphere. In fact, in 2005 humans released a total of 26.6 billion tons*1 of CO2 into the atmosphere!

How can we prevent global warming?

To motivate ourselves to prevent global warming, we should always remember that wasting electricity and consuming gasoline produces harmful CO2. In that sense, if we were to drive less and use less electricity, we could take a positive step toward protecting our planet AND see a variety of increased savings in our daily lives.

Working together to cut down on CO2 emissions is a great way to aim for a greener, happier future.

The best way to cut down on CO2 emissions right now is to:

Save Energy!

Whether it be at home or work, simple steps such as turning the lights off when you leave a room can dramatically reduce CO2 emissions. Replacing light bulbs with eco-friendly fluorescent lamps and even purchasing energy-saving home appliances are all positive ways to prevent global warming!

Have you started your eco-friendly lifestyle yet?
